Writing Question of the Week: Becoming a Writer
Happy Monday, fellow freelancers. I hope your weekend proved enjoyable! This week's writing question: When did you actually decide you wanted to be a writer? Did you suddenly have an Aha! moment, where everything seemed to fall into place - or was it more of a gradual process? Perhaps you've always known you wanted to be a writer, and managed to take the leap.
Whatever the answer might be, I want to hear it! Please feel free to leave your comments below - I'll love reading each and every one of them.
Best Wishes to All,
Denise

It feels like I've always wanted to be a writer, but there's been that ugly self-doubt. A year ago, when I took the plunge and actually started calling myself a writer, my career took off from there. From a very early age I wrote, and I was told that I wrote well. But it wasn't until I claimed that possibility for myself that I really felt the effects of that decision. Now I get paid to do what I love and be what I always wanted to be.
Thank you for your comment, Michelle. Like you, I have always wanted to be a writer as well. Since childhood, I've thought of nothing else but writing for a living.
Now I get to do that, but I still have a long way to go to reach my goals! Thankfully, I know I can do it if I just keep pushing myself. The biggest thing is never to let that little voice of doubt creep in... it can wreck you!
Whenever it comes my way, I try to push it completely out of my thoughts. I'm not going to let self-doubt ruin my lifelong dream.

My mom said that I used to scribble in her fiction books pretending that I was creating the stories. This was before I had memories.
I has the "a-ha!" moment in college but I didn't pursue a career until I became pregnant with my daughter.
Aw, what a cute story! :) Thank you for giving me my first smile of the day.
Like many others, I've been writing since childhood. I think I knew I wanted to become a writer when my fifth grade teacher encouraged me to expand on a story I wrote and read installments to the class every Friday afternoon.
It took me a long time to take the plunge though...I'm still working on making it monetarily successful, but I'm not regretting the decision. Not in the least!
